A New Book Documents the Architectural Mash-Ups of One of Earth’s Most Mystical Locales

Pretty much everyone is a travel photographer on Instagram these days, and there's nothing we like better than when one of our favorite photographers heads somewhere far-flung. But for Brian Ferry's latest project — a book called The Deepest Lake, which documents Ferry's 2014 trip to Kashmir — Instagram didn't seem like the proper vehicle on which to be seen. "When I post photos online, it can feel insignificant," Ferry says. "People scroll past it once and then move on. I want people to have the time and the space to really look at a photo, and so I had the idea to make a book."

Earlier this year, when we began to think about who might design the pattern that would adorn the interior of the Arlo Skye x Sight Unseen suitcase, we first established a few parameters: We wanted the suitcase to be more sophisticated than playful, but to still embody the warm, colorful, graphic sensibility that we tend to favor. We needed the print to repeat, but we wanted the pattern to have the illusion of being more random. And we hoped that we might be able to shine a light on a lesser-known, up-and-coming talent.

A Pastel-Hued Parisian Hotel is Our Newest Design Destination

The headboards should have been a dead giveaway: At the new Hotel Bienvenue in Paris, the asymmetrical, velvet-trimmed, tone-on-tone headboards — mixed with statement-y, wall-hung iron sconces — are the focal point in each room, just as they are in another Parisian boutique hotel we recently featured. Turns out they are owned by the same young hotelier, but designed by two different, equally amazing female talents.
