Goblets Are Your New Kitchen Must-Have

In February of 2018, we were Google-searching glassware for another story when we stumbled upon a series of objects from the '50s that awoke in us an obsession for thick-stemmed wine glasses that we never knew we had: Kaj Franck's series of colorful goblets. Two years later, our obsession has only grown, and we think they're the thing to have on your table now.

When I first set out to do this story, it was purely for selfish reasons: I was looking to replace a now out-of-stock Ikea flatware set (with bizarrely tiny forks) that I'd purchased as a cheap placeholder years ago. Why not share the results of my search? For fun, I polled some design friends on Instagram and that's when the floodgates opened. You guys. I had no idea people had so many opinions about flatware.

Join Us Tomorrow for the Launch of Pieces Home at The A/D/O Shop!

For our ongoing curatorial takeover of The A/D/O Shop in Brooklyn, we'll be doing periodic showcases of a single studio's work, in addition to all of the other amazing offerings you can buy on site. Our first showcase, which launches tomorrow, puts the spotlight on Brooklyn-based trio Pieces Home. Pieces launched a sports-themed collection at this year's ICFF, and at A/D/O, they'll be offering select furniture and rugs from that line as well as a brand-new series of geometric planters.

The New Kitchen Essentials, from Hay and Danish It-Chef Frederik Bille Brahe

The collaboration between Hay and Danish chef Frederik Bille Brahe began, as so many collaborations do, at the furniture fair in Milan a year and a half ago. Charged with outfitting the tables for a Hay pop-up café, Bille Brahe set out with Hay co-founder Mette Hay to scour the Milanese flea markets for flatware, dishes, and serving pieces. The two liked working together — and the hodgepodge effect their vintage-sourced table settings had — so much that Mette called upon Frederik to help curate the pieces in a new line launched this week called Hay Kitchen Market.
