The Best of the Rest at London Design Festival 2018

For the second year in a row, Swedish Ninja launched one of our favorite objects, this year in the form of small, mix-and-match glass sculptures. Studio Anansi capitalized on the lumpy and tubular trends with its chiseled sycamore table mirror. Skandium took up the mantle of Peter Pilotto, with its similarly color-blocked townhouse takeover. And the Ace Hotel continued its Ready Made Go collaboration with Modern Design Review, with this year's designers collaborating with local social enterprises to create each piece. Here's hoping that becomes the trend to follow us into 2019.

For our ongoing curatorial takeover of The A/D/O Shop in Brooklyn, we'll be doing periodic showcases of a single studio's work, in addition to all of the other amazing offerings you can buy on site. Our first showcase, which launches tomorrow, puts the spotlight on Brooklyn-based trio Pieces Home. Pieces launched a sports-themed collection at this year's ICFF, and at A/D/O, they'll be offering select furniture and rugs from that line as well as a brand-new series of geometric planters.

Armed with years of research, Australian stylist and designer Sarah Ellison debuted her first collection of furniture late last year, inspired by the playful proportions of '70s. In her pieces, these references are reinterpreted through a distinctly Australian lens, with colors and textures from the coastline captured through material choices such as travertine, mirrored glass, ceramic, and linen.

At the Reform Design Biennale, Helping to Push Design in a More Radical Direction

Last summer, we received an invitation from Danish designer Maria Bruun to participate in the Reform Design Biennale, an open-call, juried design exhibition she co-founded in 2014 with her friends and colleagues, Louise Hagemenn, Rasmus Fox, and Jens Dan Johansen. The brief for designers? To create an experimental piece that might challenge their typical practice or usual methods of production — i.e., what the curators describe as doing "the illogical in order to create something logical." The results are on view starting tomorrow at Munkeruphus, just outside of Copenhagen.

We Asked 13 Designers and 13 High-Profile Creatives to Collaborate for Charity, and the Results Will Surprise You

Since we started Sight Unseen nine years ago, we’ve found ourselves writing again and again about the fertile ground between creative fields. So it wasn’t much of a leap from there to Field Studies, for which we paired 13 furniture and interior designers with 13 creatives in food, fashion, film, art, and music and invited them to create a collaborative object together — all 13 of which are now available to purchase on 1stdibs, with proceeds going to a charity of each pair's choosing.
