Does Eny Lee Parker Have the Best Booth at ICFF?

In the past two years, Eny Lee Parker has doubled down on ceramics as a primary material — despite having injured her back a little over a year ago while throwing a large piece on the wheel. "I’m doing my best coming up with things I can manage without throwing all the time," she explains, "so my new pieces are all about doing what you can — no need to be perfect." It's a humble way to describe what many have dubbed the best booth at ICFF this year.

For New York Design Week, We Curated a Collection in the Material of the Moment

From epic collections by Glas Italia to the rise of vintage Murano to the swell of young glass blowers creating their own pieces and collaborating with other designers, glass has been enjoying a major resurgence as of late, and the work being done with it continues to excite us. That’s why, when we began planning a New York design week project with the influential fashion boutique 4510/Six, creating our own glass collection was the obvious choice.

Pelle’s New York Design Week Installation Brings the Drama

For sheer bonkers drama, our New York Design Week pick today is Unnatural Habitat by Pelle, a showroom installation of new work that includes a lighting system meant to resemble both floating dust particles and a shattered mirror as well as a giant, hand-sculpted banana frond turned pendant light.

At a Pop-Up Featuring Three In-Demand Interior Designers, Almost Everything — Vintage or New — Is For Sale

A Viso pop-up in Tribeca features a trio of set designs by interiors gurus Andre Mellone, Giancarlo Valle, and Michael Bargo, highlightiung exclusive designs, vintage finds, and personal items that provide context to each designer's favorite Viso items. We visited the space last week and can confirm it's one of the coolest things we've seen during New York Design Week Month this year.

Trueing’s Epic New Lights Hang From Huge Colored Glass Chains

There was a time when we would have associated the idea of chains in lighting with Restoration Hardware, or a Medieval tavern. That time has officially come to an end. Not only are chains on something of an upswing in design right now, but the rising New York studio Trueing just released an epic series of sconces, pendants, and floor lamps suspended from oversized links made of borosilicate glass, instantly banishing all rustic or industrial associations from our minds.

With the move of Collective Design back to March, NYC x Design — nowadays jokingly referred to as "New York Design Month" — technically shrunk a bit this year to just 15 days long, from the beginning of Egg Collective's Designing Women show to the last day of ICFF. Yet its cornucopia of content was as impressive as ever.

It's mind-boggling for us to think that just ten years ago, during our frequent business trips to Europe, we would constantly get asked if New York Design Week was worth visiting, and we would inevitably respond that no, it was not. But oh, how things have changed. Take a Tour of Our 2017 Sight Unseen OFFSITE Show, Part I

Conventional wisdom suggests that for an event to be considered truly successful, it's supposed to get bigger every year. But here at Sight Unseen, we've always put curation before commerce, and so when we began pondering back in October whether Sight Unseen OFFSITE might benefit from a tighter, smaller, more elevated edit, we had no qualms whatsoever about scaling down. Whereas in 2016 we hosted more than 70 exhibitors in 20,000 square feet, our 2017 show featured just 25 exhibitors in 13,000 square feet — and yet it was widely credited as being the best we've ever done.

If you’ve ever been to Mission Chinese Food on New York’s Lower East Side, chances are you’ll remember the food — the legendary kung pao pastrami, or that one dish that makes even celery taste delicious. Chances are even better, though, that you’ll remember the experience, from the cocktail topped with flaky, edible Post-Its, to the epically grand piano music, to the friends you happened to bump into late on a Wednesday.
