This Mexican Modernist Masterpiece by Mario Pani Is Now a Rentable Guest House

Architect Miggi Hood, Yola Mezcal co-founder Yola Jimenez, and entrepreneur Marie Cazalaa knew they’d struck gold when — having set out to find a property in their part-time home of Mexico City that they could turn into a stylish guest house — they acquired a charismatic residence built in 1962 by the famed Mexican architect Mario Pani. The home had been in the same family since its construction and was extremely run-down; the three friends won the bid by promising to fully restore it and invite others in to experience its design and its history. They spent two years turning it into Casa Pani, which is now bookable on Airbnb.

How This Steven Holl House Went From Architectural Showpiece to Sold-Out Weekend Getaway

The Ex of In House in Rhinebeck was designed by Steven Holl and his team as a conceptual manifesto, but he realized that as a high-end rental, it could help fund his non-profit architecture school and artist’s residency. Seasoned Airbnb host Sarah Hutchings stepped in to cozy up the house and make it amenable for overnight stays, and now she acts as a sort of architectural ambassador for its guests. This week we got images of the newest entrant into the space: the Alchemy cannabis flagship in Toronto, by Paolo Ferrari studio, which has truly left the realm of "oh that's chic for a dispensary" and entered the realm of "might as well be a Celine store."

This Parisian Doctor’s Office is More Chic Than Almost Any Apartment We’ve Seen

Designer Alessandro Moriconi — who cut his teeth working as an artistic director for luxury brands as well as a creative director for the indubitably chic studio Humbert & Poyet — conceived the space as something like a Milanese apartment, combining terrazzo, walnut paneling, and Murano glass, graphic rugs, marble tables, and accents like Greco-Roman sculptures and "woven" glass door handles.

This New York Residence Deftly Mixes Vintage and Custom — and Tile for Miles

Chances are, if you've eaten out in New York or LA in the past five years, you're familiar with some of the details that recur in this New York residence. After all, its interior design team, Home Studios, is responsible for such cozy elements as the channeled paneling at The Spaniard, the archways and tile at Bibo in LA, the copper accents at Ramona in Greenpoint, and the globular pendants at the sadly shuttered Five Leaves in East Hollywood. This 2,000-square-foot gut renovation in Noho — Home's first residential project in New York — employs all of those details and more.
