Is Menorca the Next Puglia? Probably, Thanks to This Hotel Designed By Dorothee Meilichzon

When we first saw photos of the Experimental Menorca, the latest hotel to be outfitted by one of our very favorite interior designers, Paris-based Dorothee Meilichzon, part of us wanted to keep it to ourselves — at least until we got a chance to personally visit it. Especially since its resume is so hip it's almost ridiculous: 43-room agriturismo on an under-developed and overlooked island, Meilichzon's signature style, au courant branding, textiles and ceramics by LRNCE, food sourced from the hotel's garden, pottery and painting classes on offer, owned by a boutique hospitality agency... We could keep going.

Camille Walala’s First Hotel Offers a Mellower, More Beachy Version of Memphis

Memphis — the riotously colorful design movement that experienced peak resurgence a few years back — is kind of like the mob: Just when you think you're out, it keeps pulling you back in. In this case, the oft-debated aesthetic popped up earlier this month at a new hotel on the east coast of Mauritius, designed by the London-based color and black-and-white stripes evangelist Camille Walala.

Visit the 200-Year-Old Portuguese Vineyard That Pierre Yovanovich Turned Into a Chic New Hotel

When the French winemaker Philippe Austruy purchased the Quinta da Corte vineyard in 2012, the 200-year-old property was in a state of utter neglect and disrepair. But by this past July, when I drove two hours from Porto to reach its perch in the hills of Portugal's Douro Valley, it had been completely transformed — turned into a luxe country inn by the buzzy French architect Pierre Yovanovich.

A Pastel-Hued Parisian Hotel is Our Newest Design Destination

The headboards should have been a dead giveaway: At the new Hotel Bienvenue in Paris, the asymmetrical, velvet-trimmed, tone-on-tone headboards — mixed with statement-y, wall-hung iron sconces — are the focal point in each room, just as they are in another Parisian boutique hotel we recently featured. Turns out they are owned by the same young hotelier, but designed by two different, equally amazing female talents.

Meet The In-Demand Interior Designer Redefining Parisian Chic

Dorothée Meilichzon had worked in Paris for just five years before she founded her eponymous design studio in 2009 at the age of 27. Since then, she’s become one of the most in-demand interior designers in the French capital — as well as 2015’s designer of the year at Maison & Objet — despite maintaining a full-time staff of only three. Her work focuses on hotels, restaurants, and bars — the “fun places,” as she calls them, done in a style that is decidedly of-the-moment but grounded in color and texture and marked by an exquisite attention to detail and a love for metals, wood, and stone.
