Sight Unseen Collection
Our New York Design Week Launch: 10 Cabinets and Consoles by 10 Designers, All for Sale Through Sight Unseen
There’s nothing better than a piece of furniture that simultaneously hides your possessions and, when open, offers them a beautiful backdrop. To celebrate our love of great storage options — and to offer our clients more of them — we presented 10 new pieces from our Sight Unseen Collection during New York Design Week (ahem, Month): casegoods by 10 different designers, some of which are already available to source on our site. Exhibited in the Chinatown showroom of Peter Staples’s lighting studio Blue Green Works, the cabinets, consoles, and nightstands were the perfect way to also showcase decorative knobs and pulls from Monica’s new project, Petra Hardware, in a collaborative exhibition.
Some of the cabinets were really tall, like a burlwood number by Rest Energy whose back and interior were entirely coated in crushed eggshells (with a leaf handle by Chris Wolston), an enigmatic black triangle by newcomer Clay Brown (knob by Hayesmade), and a red-tinted wood armoire with ziggurat pulls by Cultivation Objects. Some were mirrored, like the interior of Steven Bukowski’s wall cabinet (handles by Platform Studio) and the door of Charles Constantine’s sunny yellow standing bar (knobs by Fort Standard). Some were hand-sculpted in wood, including Studio POA’s Japanese-inspired nightstand and Mike Ruiz’s cabinet, both of whom used their own hardware, or two consoles by Jackrabbit Studio and Luke Malaney that used someone else’s (The Perfect Nothing and Pamela Love x Guillaume Pajolec, respectively). Then there was the piece that was so pretty we put it on our invitations this year: a black and burl wood cabinet with a geometric base by Alexis & Ginger, whose iridescent resin handles are the work of L.A. artist Nick Biddle.
If you didn’t get to see the show IRL, below is a good overview. And the Petra Hardware panels that everyone loved so much are moving to Verso gallery in Tribeca, so you can visit them this summer at your leisure.
Special thanks to PND Neon, Las Jaras Wines, and Christofle for help making this show happen!
