Paul Wackers at Morgan Lehman Gallery
Most of you probably know Brooklyn artist Paul Wackers for his paintings, which depict plants, rocks, and shelves full of abstract knick-knacks. But his work really comes alive when it’s exhibited alongside his ceramics — as is currently the case in his Morgan Lehman show “Thank You For Being You” — which makes it appear as though the paintings have come to life. In reality, though, it’s moreso the other way around: When Wackers first started making the two-dimensional shelf scenes, he looked to the objects around him in his studio, including pieces of his own pottery, for inspiration. You can get a sense of how the two facets of Wackers’s practice interact by checking out the exhibition images below, but we would highly suggest heading to Morgan Lehman in New York between now and August 14 for the full experience.
